In the same way, white noise combines all audible frequencies (20 Hz to 20 kHz) at equal power, producing a flat frequency spectrum. This is why it sounds like a hiss, or the static between radio stations.

White noise uses random samples with approximately equal power per hertz. This generator loops a locally created two-second buffer, so it is a repeating sample of noise rather than an endlessly new random stream.

A repeatable check

  1. Lower the page and system volume before pressing Play. Raise only enough to hear the texture comfortably.
  2. For an equipment comparison, keep the same listening position and source settings, and listen briefly for an obvious channel or timbre difference.
  3. Press Stop before comparing pink or brown noise. Adjust for similar perceived loudness; equal slider percentages do not guarantee an equal-loudness comparison.

What the result suggests

The hiss is too sharp
Lower the level or compare pink noise. White noise places more total power in each successive octave, which contributes to its bright character.
You notice a repeating pattern
The two-second buffer repeats by design. Stop and restart to generate another sample; this is not evidence of a recording or network fault.

What this cannot establish
