This check plays a two-second stereo tone or short sweep for a listening comparison. It does not measure acoustic output or assign a speaker quality score.
A repeatable check
- Sit between the speakers at a similar distance from each. Select the correct output and start at low system volume.
- Press L, then R, with the initial 440 Hz tone. Identify which speaker plays and keep the same level for both.
- Open Signal settings and choose Short sweep to check each side from 100 to 4000 Hz. Note a repeatable buzz; the sound stops after two seconds.
What the result suggests
- A buzz appears only at certain pitches
- Stop playback and check nearby objects, stands, and loose grilles. Repeat more quietly; a room object can rattle without the speaker driver being damaged.
- One speaker seems quieter
- Check channel balance and compare from a centered position. If safe for your setup, swap input cables with the equipment powered off: a fault that follows the cable points upstream.
What this cannot establish
Room reflections and placement change what you hear. The animated bars only indicate playback activity. A listening sweep is not a measured frequency-response chart, and its fixed range does not change with the tone-frequency slider.

Does the waveform measure my speaker?
No. It shows a signal inside the browser. Listen to check whether the physical speaker produces sound; this page does not use your microphone.
Can I test individual surround speakers here?
This page sends a stereo signal. Use your receiver or operating system channel test to verify center, rear, or height speakers.
Does a buzz mean a damaged driver?
Not necessarily. Stop playback and check nearby objects, stands and connections. Compare at low volume with another source before drawing a hardware conclusion.
