What is audio latency?

Audio latency is the delay between an event happening and you hearing its sound. The browser, operating system, audio driver, wireless connection, and playback device can all add delay.

How does this audio latency test work?

The test repeats a short beep and a visual flash. Move the flash-delay control until the two events feel simultaneous. The selected value is a practical estimate of the sound delay in your current setup.

Can this test check Bluetooth audio delay?

Yes. Run the test once with wired headphones or speakers and again over Bluetooth. If the Bluetooth result needs more flash delay to match, the wireless path is adding noticeable latency.

Is the result a laboratory measurement?

No. This is a manual perceptual sync test. It is useful for troubleshooting and comparison, but exact round-trip measurement requires dedicated recording hardware or a calibrated microphone loopback.

How can I reduce audio and video sync problems?

Try a wired connection, disable extra audio processing, select a low-latency or game mode, update audio drivers, and check whether the player or TV offers an audio-sync adjustment.

Compare perceived sync with one change at a time

A repeating beep and flash let you manually match sound to a visual event. The displayed match is the slider value you choose; it is not an automatically measured round-trip delay.

A repeatable check

  1. Start the sync test with this tab visible. Listen to several pulses before adjusting anything.
  2. If the beep follows the flash, move Flash delay right; if it comes first, move left. Make small changes and listen again.
  3. Repeat the match several times, then compare wired and wireless output using the same browser and screen.

What the result suggests

Wireless playback needs a larger positive offset
The wireless output path may be adding delay. Recheck with the same device's low-latency mode, if available, while holding other settings constant.
The best match varies widely between attempts
Keep the tab in the foreground and close heavy background work. Record a range of matches instead of treating a single slider value as exact.

What this cannot establish

Screen timing, browser scheduling, output buffering, and human judgment all affect the result. Browser-reported base latency describes only part of the path, not the full delay heard at your ears.
